CAPS Scholar to Receive Prestigious Gates Scholarship

ASBURY PARK, NJ — Gloriann Gonzalez, graduating senior from College Achieve Public Schools Greater Asbury (CAPS) has been named recipient of the competitive Gates Scholarship, placing Gloriann among just 750 students selected nationwide from a pool of more than 48,000 applicants.

The Gates Scholarship is a last‑dollar scholarship awarded to exceptional, Pell Grant‑eligible, minority high school seniors. Recipients are selected for their academic excellence, leadership ability, personal drive and commitment to service. In addition to covering the full cost of attendance — including tuition, housing and books — this award is made to cover financial aid or family contributions by providing a scholarship and ongoing support through leadership development, mentoring and career resources throughout a scholar’s undergraduate experience.

Gonzalez will attend Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine at Rowan University in Glassboro, where she plans to pursue veterinary medicine through the university’s combined B.S./Doctoral program.

The veterinary medicine school is brand new in 2025, and Ms. Gonzalez will be in its inaugural class this fall! Enrollment is limited to 70 students for the first class. The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine is the first School of veterinary medicine in the state of New Jersey — and only one of two schools in the nation that offer three medical degrees (DVM, DO, & MD).

Ms. Gonzalez is also a member of CAPS Street Team, where she helps gather content for both social media and the school’s website.
