Clarify changing roles
and expectations.

With new challenges, come new responsibilities. Our teaching staff and leaders have adapted to the new “normal” to make sure that our scholars keep learning!

Keep it as simple as possible,
using fewer tools but better.

The internet is full of all kinds of teaching tools, but not all of them are great. Not to mention, trying to use too many tools could be overwhelming for both scholars and their teachers. So, we choose only the ones we think really will benefit everyone!

Communicate often,
effectively, and promptly.

With so many new things going on in Virtual Academy, we feel that it’s important to keep in touch. In addition to using email, Class Dojo, and PowerSchool, our teachers and leaders also often get on the phone with scholars and families when a little more personal connection is needed.

Experiment, reflect,
and improve cyclically.

We don’t think anyone across the country is getting Virtual Academy perfect, but every lesson we teach is a lesson where we learn to teach remotely better. Since those lessons happen every day, we’re constantly improving!

Believe we can adapt all activities at school to remote learning.

It may take some creativity and hard work, but we believe that we can do just about anything we did in the physical classroom virtually as well. Our staff is constantly rethinking what we do virtually and coming up with new ways to engage scholars each and every day.

Respond to scholars, families,
and each other in timely way.

We want our scholars and their familities to know that we understand that virtual learning is hard. We know many of them miss being at school in person with their friends and teachers. So when something comes up, we want to hear about it. Please contact us.
